Foreshadowing often appears at the beginning of a story, or a chapter, and helps the reader develop expectations about the coming events in a story. Or he is using the Carson City film to comment on those east/west tunnels and the divide between them, which is drilled through in Carson City. At the same time, the archetype of the Shadow can be found: it stands for the fury of the evil side, the danger which tacitly lies beneath the surface.
